Janet Dunn, 73, was “found holding a pillow to the face” of her partner of 53 years, Anthony Dunn, who died as a result of her actions. He then fled their wartime home, leaving their grown daughter to discover his body and call the police. The next day Dunn was arrested and initially charged with murder. Now Dunn, of Beech Court, Ponteland, Northumberland, pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Newcastle Crown Court and prosecutors accepted the plea and dropped the murder charge. Our thoughts remain with his family as they continue to come to terms with this tragic incident. This guilty plea will save them from going to trial and the added stress it can bring. “I would like to acknowledge the hard work of all the officers involved. It was an incredibly difficult investigation, but their commitment to justice resulted in a detailed evidentiary file and a guilty plea. Hopefully the family can now look to move on with their grief and find some closure with this result.” Dunn has been remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced later this week when full details of what happened will emerge. Judge Paul Sloan QC told her: “I adjourn your case until Thursday of this week. You will be in court on Thursday for the sentencing hearing. I hope that all the relevant material that I need to consider before sentencing will be available for the hearing. “You must understand, I am not giving any indication of the sentence that will be imposed. That will depend on the content of the reports that will be prepared between now and Thursday. You will be remanded in custody pending a hearing on Thursday.” Read next:
