Officers launched a murder investigation after attending a house in Kingsheath Avenue, Knotty Ash, at 10pm following reports that an unknown man had fired a gun into the property, Merseyside Police said. The nine-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to hospital in critical condition, where she later died. A man received gunshot wounds to his body and a woman to the arm. Both were taken to hospital. Police said door-to-door, CCTV and forensic inquiries are ongoing and a cordon is in place. Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said: “This is a truly shocking incident in which a young and innocent girl has tragically been shot and sadly died. “Our thoughts and condolences go out to her family and friends at this very difficult time.
