Just a few days ago things were looking extremely promising for the Toronto Blue Jays in their quest to return to the playoffs. The Blue Jays were riding high Thursday after completing a sweep of the Boston Red Sox to complete an impressive 6-1 road trip that also saw them take three of four games against the New York Yankees. With a soft schedule looming, the Blue Jays appeared poised to put some distance between themselves and the other wild-card hopefuls chasing them. Instead, they returned home and were swept by the Los Angeles Angels, a team reeling from another disappointing season and one that had lost six straight entering the series at the Rogers Centre. Overall, the Blue Jays went 22-3 over the three games as some of their American League opponents came up short. Toronto lost Friday’s game in surprising fashion as Los Angeles won 12-0. The Blue Jays honored the 1992 World Series-winning team before Saturday’s contest, then were completely shut out by two-run Shohei Ohtani en route to a 2-0 loss. But Sunday’s sloppy, error-filled 8-3 loss was what really sent several fans into a 2022 rollercoaster campaign. Here’s a sample of the backlash from disgruntled Blue Jays fans: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Co. they’ll have a chance to rebound right away as they host the Chicago Cubs — another team well below .500 — for a three-game set starting Monday. The Blue Jays then hit the road for series against the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates, the upstart Baltimore Orioles and the middling Texas Rangers. That stretch could very well define Toronto’s season.
