One of the cougar tracks found along Mill Creek near Riverside Avenue A woman who lives on Riverside Avenue says she’s seen plenty of signs of wildlife in her backyard over the years, but never had any evidence of a cougar until last week. Lisanne posted on the Kelowna Alert to warn people about some footprints she found along Mill Creek late last week. Several people have confirmed what appear to be cougar tracks in the mud along the creek. Her home is directly across Highway 97 from downtown Kelowna. Lisanne adds that she sees beavers, raccoons and deer along Mill Creek but never cougars. “I believed he walked through my back yard and went down to the edge of the creek and then walked across the creek.” “There is so much activity. I’m close to downtown, so I was surprised to see it. “The tracks only go one way. It’s not like it was going back and forth. I believe he was going through the neighborhood,” he believes probably continuing along the creek to avoid the roads and traffic. She will keep a close eye on her cat and her child when they are out in the yard now that she knows the big cats roam so far into town. Lisanne adds that she contacted the BC Conservation Officer Service to let them know about the footprints. Photo: Contributed Cougar prints have been reported to the BC Conservation Officer Service
