The incident took place last week in Hamilton, Ohio, when Maddy Miller, the girl’s mom, asked her daughter to perform her usual chore of taking out a bag of trash on the sidewalk.

“She came in with a blood-curdling scream, ran into the living room, said, ‘Mom, someone tried to take me,’” Miller told CNN. “I went outside and saw him walking down the sidewalk.” In the video captured by the doorbell camera, a man, later identified as 33-year-old Derrick McPherson, is seen approaching the girl and appears to grab her. Story continues below ad The girl’s father, Ricky Miller, told the newspaper that he believes earlier conversations with their daughter about what to do in a kidnapping situation likely saved her from being caught.

“I always told her that if someone touches her, talks to her or grabs her, make a scene, scream as loud as you can and fight,” Ricky said. “She screamed bloody murder and pulled on him and ran away from him.” McPherson is currently being held in the Butler County Jail on a charge of fifth-degree felony kidnapping.
