LIVE UPDATES: Closure in East Lancs as lorry crashes A spokesman for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews were called at 4.13pm. and on site at 4.20 p.m. “There are four fire engines at the scene. “Upon arrival, crews encountered a single vehicle traffic collision involving a HGV on its side.” Firefighters have rushed to the scene He added: “Firefighting has commenced with a team of two firefighters in breathing apparatus using a hose reel, crews are in the process of installing a water supply. “North West Ambulance Service are attending to assess the driver of the carriage, who was out of the vehicle before MFRS arrived. He is conscious and breathing. “Merseyside Police are also on the scene and have closed the East Lancs Road A580 in both directions between Haydock and St Helens. “This is an ongoing incident, please avoid the area.” In a statement the police said: “Merseyside Police are advising motorists to avoid the East Lancashire Road (A580) near Carr Mill Dam, Carr Mill, St Helens. “Emergency services (Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service) following reports that a HGV overturned on the Manchester-bound carriageway at around 4.10pm. “The driver is believed to have suffered a medical condition and was taken to hospital by ambulance. No other vehicles were involved in the incident and no one else was injured. “East Lancashire Road is closed between Stanley Bank Way at Carr Mill and Windle Island and will be in place until the vehicle is removed from the roadway.” Did you see what happened?
