Photo: Castanet Staff The BC Attorney’s Office has approved two firearms-related charges against a BC Highway Patrol RCMP officer in connection with an alleged off-duty incident in Williams Lake. Const. Olavo Castro faces one count of possession of a vehicle knowing there was a restricted firearm in it and unauthorized possession of a loaded restricted firearm in a motor vehicle, both under the Penal Code. The counts stem from an alleged July 1 incident in the community of 11,500 people located about 235 kilometers south of Prince George. A first appearance in the matter is scheduled for Oct. 5 in Williams Lake Provincial Court. “The charges were approved by an experienced Crown Counsel with no prior or current relationship with the officer,” BCPS said in a statement issued Monday afternoon.
