It’s unusual for candidates to update their issue pages on major issues, and CNN has contacted Masters’ campaign about the amended language regarding the 2020 election.
Sections on immigration and the 2020 election have been removed
In early August, The Masters Plan page read: “We must take election integrity seriously. The 2020 election was a rotten mess — if we had a free and fair election, President Trump would be sitting in the Oval Office today.” and America would be much better off.”
The page now only says, “We must take election integrity seriously.”
In another section of Masters’ website on immigration, Masters wrote: “Joe Biden and Mark Kelly caused this crisis. They canceled the construction of the Border Wall. They invite illegals to come here and give them shelter and cash. Democrats dream of mass amnesty. because they want to bring in a new electorate.”
Masters removed the last line, which suggests the great replacement of the conspiracy theory.
The site was de-archived in 2018
Masters’ website has been temporarily removed from the Web Archive at his request, according to a spokesperson for the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine.
Anyone can request that their content be removed from the Wayback Machine, and netizens flagged its removal Friday after NBC reported. Although the removal sparked outcry that Masters was trying to hide the changes to his campaign website, the ban on his page was actually requested in 2018 before he ran.
“Blake Masters sent us a request to block blakemasters.com from the Wayback Machine in 2018, well before his campaign,” the spokesperson said. “We did not know he would run for public office and blocked the site. We have currently re-enabled access to the site’s archives for the time period after Masters’ campaign was made public.”
CNN’s Alex Rogers contributed to this report.
