Police said in a news release Monday that they received a call at about 10:30 a.m. by a witness who reported that people in the water at Coronation Park were in danger. Emergency crews, including the police marine unit, went to the park and rescued a boy, aged 10, from the water. The child was not injured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Firefighters in Oakville located a young woman and pulled her from the water near shore. He was also taken to the hospital. “Despite the life-saving efforts of first responders and the Hospital’s Emergency Unit, the Halton Regional Police Service is deeply saddened to report that the young woman has passed away,” police said in a statement. Police said the boy and woman are not related, but were at the park together. “Halton Regional Police Service would like to extend our sincere condolences to the woman’s family and friends at this difficult time.” Police said they were still investigating, but would not release further details out of respect for the families involved.
