Parker led Bournemouth to promotion last season but was sacked after 14 months with the club having won one of their first four Premier League games. This happened on the first day against Aston Villa. Since then they have also lost 4-0 to Manchester City and 3-0 to Arsenal. Parker stated after the game at Anfield that he felt the club had not spent enough this summer paying £22.6m for two players and making three free transfers. “I was clear about how this season could look for us and I’m sticking to it,” he said. “We have to make a decision and try to help this young team who are struggling for air at times. Each of us must make this decision. We are trying to get more quality and there are a million reasons [it hasn’t happened].” Bournemouth owner Maxim Demin appeared to react to those comments as part of his statement confirming Parker’s sacking. “I would like to express my gratitude to Scott and his team for their efforts during their time with us,” he said. “Our promotion back to the Premier League last season under him will always be remembered as one of the most successful seasons in our history. “However, to continue to progress as a team and as a club as a whole, it is imperative that we are aligned in our strategy for the sustainable operation of the club. We must also show faith and respect to one another. That’s the approach that has brought this club so much success in recent history, and one we won’t stray from now. Our search for a new coach will begin immediately.” Start your evenings with the Guardian’s view of the world of football Privacy Notice: Newsletters may contain information about charities, online advertising and content sponsored by external parties.
